Aisling Heffernan MSc, BSc, MIASLT

Aisling Heffernan graduated with an honours degree from the School of Clinical Speech & Language Studies in Trinity College in 1998. In 2006, she completed an MSc in Clinical Speech & Language Studies in Trinity College Dublin (specialising in the management of swallowing disorders). Currently, she is completing an MSc in Healthcare Management with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Aisling has worked with children and adults in a variety of settings including community care, acute care and rehabilitation. She is currently working as a Speech & Language Therapy Manager in a rehabilitation setting. She has also worked in a leading international, rehabilitation centre in Sydney, Australia. Her main areas of expertise are brain injury, neurology, stroke and paediatric speech/language difficulties.
Aisling delivers regular training and workshops on Speech & Language Therapy issues. She maintains ongoing continuing professional development and advocates for the consistent use of evidence based practice.



Susan Downes (McElwee) BSc, MIASLT, MRCSLT

Susan Downes qualified with an honours degree in Clinical Speech & Language Therapy from Leeds University UK in 1999. She has 11 years experience working in all areas of adult communication and swallowing disorders including specialism in Voice/ENT, Stroke, Head Injury, Neurology, Geriatrics, Dementia, Head and Neck Cancer, Transgender Voice and Burns.
Susan is a Senior Speech & Language Therapist, in one of the major acute care hospitals in Dublin, and has been working there since 2001. She also has been working in a large private hospital for the past 2 years.
Susan has also gained invaluable experience working in major acute care hospitals in New Zealand and Sydney, Australia. During this time, Susan has developed advanced training in Voice, Head and Neck Cancer, Digital Stroboscopy, Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of swallow (FEES) and Videofluroscopy.
She is currently undertaking an MSc in Dysphagia (swallowing disorders) in Trinity College Dublin.
